Buying a used vehicle without a professional inspection can prevent expensive surprises after purchase. CMM Automotive recently completed a Mobile Pre Purchase Vehicle Inspection Mirrabooka on a Holden VY. Our inspection uncovered numerous mechanical, safety and cosmetic faults that could significantly influence a buyer’s decision.
Interior Inspection
We began the Mobile Pre Purchase Vehicle Inspection Mirrabooka by inspecting the interior. Our inspection revealed none of the interior lights were operating. The fuel flap release did not work from inside the vehicle. We also found the windscreen washers were inoperative and the air conditioning failed to produce cold air. Engine oil was leaking from the front of the engine, and the brake booster showed signs of an oil leak. The engine breather hose was not attached correctly. Fuel stains were visible on the exhaust manifold, requiring immediate investigation because of the potential fire risk.
Steering, Brakes and Suspension
We continued by inspecting the steering, brakes and suspension. We found excessive play in both front struts. The right-hand front tyre and left-hand rear tyre had worn down to a bald condition. Our inspection also identified a camber problem and incorrect wheel alignment, which had caused excessive tyre wear. The front brake pads had reached the end of their service life, while the rear brake disc rotors showed noticeable wear marks. We also found faulty wheel nuts on the right-hand front wheel.
Body and Exterior Inspection
We completed the Mobile Pre Purchase Vehicle Inspection Mirrabooka by inspecting the body and exterior. The front and rear of the vehicle had both sustained accident damage. We also found damage to the front bumper bar. The fuel flap would not open correctly, and the tail lights had been darkened. These modifications may affect roadworthiness depending on local regulations.
Road Test
During the road test, the steering wheel sat noticeably off centre while driving. The vehicle was difficult to select into reverse gear, and second gear occasionally crunched during gear changes. We also confirmed the wheel alignment was incorrect, contributing to the abnormal tyre wear identified during the inspection.
