Car AC Making Noise When On? Here’s What It Could Mean

Car AC Making Noise When On? Don’t Ignore It

Car AC making noise when on is a common problem that many Perth drivers experience, especially during the warmer months when their vehicle’s air conditioning is working its hardest. While some noises are minor and easy to fix, others can indicate worn components or developing faults that may become much more expensive if ignored.

Your vehicle’s air conditioning system contains several moving parts, including the compressor, drive belt, pulleys, cooling fans and blower motor. If any of these components begin to wear or fail, unusual noises are often one of the first warning signs.

At CMM Automotive, we provide a professional mobile car air conditioning service throughout Perth, diagnosing air conditioning faults at your home or workplace. Identifying the source of the noise early can often prevent costly repairs and keep your air conditioning operating reliably.

Different Noises Can Mean Different Problems

One of the most important things to understand is that not all air conditioning noises have the same cause.

The type of sound you hear can provide valuable clues about where the problem is located.

Common noises include:

  • Squealing
  • Grinding
  • Clicking
  • Rattling
  • Hissing
  • Buzzing

Each noise points towards a different possible fault.

Squealing Noises When the Air Conditioner Turns On

A squealing noise is one of the most common complaints drivers notice when switching the air conditioning on.

Possible causes include:

  • Worn drive belt
  • Loose drive belt
  • Compressor clutch wear
  • Pulley bearing problems
  • Belt tensioner faults

Sometimes the squeal only lasts for a few seconds after the air conditioner is turned on. In other cases, it may continue while the system is operating.

Ignoring belt-related noises can eventually leave you with a broken belt and a vehicle that may no longer charge the battery or operate other engine accessories correctly.

Grinding Noises Should Never Be Ignored

Grinding sounds usually indicate mechanical wear.

Potential causes include:

  • Compressor bearing failure
  • Internal compressor damage
  • Pulley bearing wear
  • Damaged clutch assembly

If your car air conditioner making noise sounds like metal grinding, it’s best to have the system inspected as soon as possible.

Continuing to operate a failing compressor may allow metal particles to circulate through the entire air conditioning system, significantly increasing repair costs.

Clicking Noises From the Dashboard

Clicking noises don’t always come from the compressor.

Modern vehicles use small electric actuators inside the dashboard to control airflow direction and cabin temperature.

If one of these actuators begins to fail, you may hear repetitive clicking from behind the dashboard whenever the air conditioning is switched on.

These faults are generally unrelated to the refrigerant system itself but can still affect the operation of your climate control system.

Rattling Sounds While Driving

If your car AC rattling noise occurs while driving, several components could be responsible.

Common possibilities include:

  • Loose compressor mounting bolts
  • Worn compressor clutch
  • Damaged cooling fan
  • Loose heat shields
  • Debris caught near the condenser

A professional inspection helps determine whether the noise is actually coming from the air conditioning system or another nearby engine component.

Hissing Sounds May Indicate Refrigerant Movement

A brief hissing noise immediately after switching the air conditioner off is often considered normal.

However, continuous hissing while the system is operating may indicate:

  • Refrigerant leak
  • Expansion valve operation
  • Pressure equalisation issues

If the hissing is accompanied by poor cooling performance, it’s worth arranging a professional inspection.

Did You Know?

Many drivers automatically assume a noisy air conditioner means the compressor has failed.

In reality, worn belts, pulley bearings, blower motors and even loose mounting brackets can produce very similar sounds.

Accurately identifying the source of the noise before replacing parts can save hundreds of dollars in unnecessary repairs.

Can You Continue Driving?

In many cases, yes.

However, continuing to use an air conditioning system that is making unusual noises isn’t recommended.

Minor faults often become major repairs if left unattended.

For example:

  • A worn bearing may damage the compressor.
  • A slipping belt may eventually snap.
  • A loose pulley can cause additional component wear.
  • A failing compressor can contaminate the entire refrigeration system with metal debris.

Early diagnosis is almost always the more affordable option.

Perth’s Hot Summers Put Extra Demand on Your Air Conditioning

Perth’s climate means vehicle air conditioning systems are often used for much of the year.

Extended periods of operation naturally place more load on the compressor, drive belt and cooling fans.

Regular servicing and early attention to unusual noises help maintain reliable performance throughout Perth’s hottest months while reducing the risk of unexpected failures.

How We Diagnose a Noisy Car Air Conditioning System

If your car AC making noise when on has become more noticeable, the first step is a proper diagnosis. Replacing parts without identifying the actual cause can become expensive and may not solve the problem.

At CMM Automotive, our mobile car air conditioning service uses professional diagnostic equipment to locate the source of the noise before recommending any repairs.

Our inspection may include:

  • Checking compressor operation
  • Inspecting the compressor clutch
  • Examining the drive belt and belt tension
  • Testing pulley bearings
  • Measuring refrigerant pressures
  • Inspecting cooling fans
  • Checking for refrigerant leaks
  • Measuring vent temperatures
  • Listening for abnormal operating noises

By carefully inspecting the entire system, we can determine whether the noise is coming from the air conditioning components or another accessory driven by the engine.

Why Regular Air Conditioning Servicing Helps Prevent Noisy Repairs

Many air conditioning faults develop gradually over time.

Routine servicing can often identify worn components before they fail completely.

Regular servicing helps:

  • Maintain correct refrigerant levels
  • Reduce compressor wear
  • Detect refrigerant leaks early
  • Identify worn belts and bearings
  • Improve cooling performance
  • Extend the life of major air conditioning components

Preventative maintenance is almost always less expensive than replacing a failed compressor or contaminated air conditioning system.

Common Repairs That May Solve a Noisy Air Conditioner

Once the fault has been identified, the repair will depend on which component is causing the problem.

Some of the more common repairs include:

  • Replacing a worn drive belt
  • Adjusting belt tension
  • Replacing pulley bearings
  • Repairing or replacing the compressor clutch
  • Replacing the compressor
  • Repairing refrigerant leaks
  • Replacing damaged cooling fans
  • Removing debris trapped around the condenser or fan assembly

Every vehicle is different, which is why accurate diagnosis is so important before replacing components.

Don’t Wait Until the Noise Gets Worse

One of the biggest mistakes drivers make is ignoring unusual air conditioning noises because the system is still producing cold air.

Unfortunately, many mechanical faults become significantly more expensive if left too long.

For example:

  • A noisy bearing may eventually seize.
  • A worn compressor clutch may stop engaging.
  • A damaged compressor can contaminate the entire refrigeration system with metal particles.
  • A loose drive belt can eventually break, affecting other engine accessories.

Arranging an inspection early often results in a simpler and more affordable repair.

Car AC Smells Bad? Here’s What Could Be Causing It

Car AC Smells Bad? Don’t Ignore the Warning Signs

Car AC smells bad is one of the most common complaints we hear from Perth drivers, especially during the warmer months when air conditioning systems are used every day. A musty, mouldy or unpleasant smell coming from your air conditioning vents is more than just annoying—it often indicates that moisture, bacteria or mould has built up somewhere within the system.

While some odours are relatively harmless, others can point to maintenance issues that should be addressed before they become more serious. Fortunately, most causes of bad air conditioning smells can be diagnosed and repaired without replacing the entire system.

At CMM Automotive, we provide a professional mobile car air conditioning service throughout Perth, helping customers eliminate unpleasant odours while ensuring their air conditioning system is operating efficiently.

Why Does My Car Air Conditioner Smell Bad?

Your vehicle’s air conditioning system removes humidity from the cabin as it cools the air. This moisture normally drains away through a small drain tube underneath the vehicle.

If moisture becomes trapped inside the system, it creates the perfect environment for mould, mildew and bacteria to grow.

Why Does My Car AC Smell Bad? | Mobile Car Air Conditioning Service Perth

Once this happens, every time you switch on the air conditioner, air passes over these contaminated surfaces and carries the unpleasant smell into the cabin.

The smell is often described as:

  • Musty
  • Damp
  • Mouldy
  • Like dirty socks
  • Stale or earthy

These odours are among the earliest signs that your air conditioning system needs attention.

The Most Common Cause – Mould on the Evaporator

The evaporator is one of the most common places where mould develops.

Located deep inside the dashboard, the evaporator becomes cold whenever the air conditioner is operating. As warm cabin air passes over it, condensation forms on its surface.

Over time, dust, pollen and moisture combine to create an ideal breeding ground for bacteria and mould.

This is the leading reason why many drivers notice a musty smell from car vents, particularly when the air conditioning is first switched on.

Because the evaporator is hidden inside the dashboard, professional cleaning is often the most effective solution.

A Dirty Cabin Air Filter Can Make Things Worse

Many vehicles are fitted with a cabin air filter that removes dust, pollen and other airborne particles before they enter the passenger compartment.

When this filter becomes dirty, it can:

  • Trap moisture
  • Collect organic material
  • Restrict airflow
  • Develop mould
  • Produce unpleasant smells

A blocked cabin filter may not be the only cause of the odour, but replacing it is often an important part of restoring fresh airflow.

Many manufacturers recommend replacing the cabin filter every 12 months or according to the vehicle’s service schedule.

Bacteria Can Build Up Inside the Air Conditioning System

Moisture and dust create ideal conditions for bacteria to multiply inside the evaporator housing.

As bacteria grow, they produce unpleasant odours that become noticeable whenever the fan is switched on.

In some cases, drivers notice the smell disappears after a few minutes, while others experience it continuously whenever the air conditioning is operating.

Professional cleaning products specifically designed for automotive air conditioning systems can help remove bacterial contamination and restore fresh airflow.

Could It Be Something Other Than Mould?

Although mould and bacteria are the most common causes, they’re not the only possibilities.

Other causes of a bad smell from car AC include:

  • Leaves trapped near the air intake
  • Blocked evaporator drain
  • Damp carpets after water leaks
  • Rodents or insects inside the ventilation system
  • Food or debris trapped inside cabin vents

A professional inspection helps identify the exact source of the odour rather than simply masking it with deodorising sprays.

Why Air Fresheners Usually Don’t Fix the Problem

Many drivers try hanging air fresheners from the mirror or spraying deodoriser into the vents.

While this may temporarily cover the smell, it doesn’t remove the mould, bacteria or moisture causing the problem.

In many cases, the unpleasant odour returns within days.

Proper car air conditioning repair involves finding the source of the smell and treating the underlying cause rather than simply masking it.

Can Bad Air Conditioning Smells Affect Your Health?

Most unpleasant odours are simply annoying, but mould and bacteria inside an air conditioning system may aggravate allergies or respiratory conditions in some people.

Drivers who suffer from asthma or hay fever may notice increased irritation if contaminated air continues circulating through the cabin.

This is another reason why bad smells shouldn’t be ignored.

Cleaning the system not only improves comfort but also helps maintain healthier cabin air quality for everyone travelling in the vehicle.

Perth’s Climate Creates Ideal Conditions for Mould

Perth’s warm weather means vehicle air conditioning systems are used for much of the year.

Frequent cooling creates regular condensation inside the evaporator, and if the moisture doesn’t drain properly, mould growth can occur surprisingly quickly.

Vehicles that spend long periods parked outside, or are only driven short distances, can be more susceptible because the evaporator doesn’t always have time to dry completely between uses.

Regular servicing helps keep the system clean and operating efficiently throughout Perth’s changing seasons.

How Professional Car AC Cleaning Works

If your car AC smells bad, the most effective solution is to have the system professionally inspected and cleaned. Simply spraying air freshener into the vents or replacing the cabin filter may temporarily reduce the smell, but it rarely removes the source of the problem.

At CMM Automotive, our mobile car air conditioning service is designed to identify why the smell is occurring before recommending the most appropriate repair or cleaning process.

Depending on the condition of your vehicle, this may include:

  • Inspecting the cabin air filter
  • Checking the evaporator drain for blockages
  • Inspecting the evaporator for signs of mould or bacteria
  • Cleaning the air conditioning system using specialised products
  • Checking refrigerant pressures and cooling performance
  • Inspecting the condenser and compressor
  • Ensuring the ventilation system is operating correctly

By treating the source of the odour rather than simply masking it, we help restore fresh, clean air inside your vehicle.

How to Prevent Bad Smells from Returning

Once your air conditioning system has been cleaned, there are several simple steps you can take to reduce the chances of unpleasant smells returning.

Replace the Cabin Air Filter Regularly

A clean cabin filter helps prevent dust, pollen and debris from building up inside the ventilation system.

Most manufacturers recommend replacing the filter every 12 months or according to the service schedule.

Run the Fan Before You Turn Off the Engine

A useful habit is to switch the air conditioning compressor off a minute or two before reaching your destination while leaving the cabin fan running.

This allows the evaporator to dry, reducing the moisture that mould and bacteria need to grow.

Use Your Air Conditioner All Year Round

Many drivers only use their air conditioning during summer.

Running the system regularly throughout the year helps keep seals lubricated, circulates refrigerant and reduces moisture build-up.

Keep the Air Intake Area Clean

Leaves, dirt and other debris can collect near the base of the windscreen where the fresh air intake is located.

Keeping this area clean improves airflow and reduces the chance of organic material entering the ventilation system.

Common Signs Your Car Air Conditioning Needs Attention

Air conditioning systems rarely stop working without warning.

Some of the most common symptoms include:

Warm Air From the Vents

This is usually the first sign drivers notice.

Warm air may indicate:

  • Low refrigerant
  • Refrigerant leak
  • Faulty compressor
  • Electrical problem
  • Pressure switch failure

The sooner the fault is diagnosed, the less chance there is of expensive component damage.

Weak Airflow

If the air feels cold but barely comes through the vents, the problem may not be the refrigeration system itself.

Possible causes include:

  • Blocked cabin filter
  • Faulty blower motor
  • Air distribution flap problems
  • Debris restricting airflow

These faults can often be diagnosed quickly during a mobile inspection.

Strange Noises When the AC Is Running

Grinding, rattling or clicking noises should never be ignored.

These sounds may indicate:

  • Compressor bearing wear
  • Compressor clutch problems
  • Loose components
  • Internal compressor damage

Early diagnosis can often prevent a complete compressor failure.

Why Professional Diagnosis Matters

One of the biggest mistakes vehicle owners make is assuming every air conditioning problem simply needs a regas.

In reality, adding refrigerant without diagnosing the fault often results in the same problem returning weeks later.

Professional car air conditioning repairs begin with identifying why the system stopped cooling in the first place.

At CMM Automotive, every diagnosis includes checking the overall condition of the system before recommending repairs.

The Importance of Leak Detection

Air conditioning systems are designed to be sealed.

Refrigerant should not simply disappear over time.

If refrigerant levels are low, there is almost always a leak somewhere within the system.

Common leak locations include:

  • Compressor seals
  • Condenser
  • Flexible hoses
  • O-rings
  • Evaporator
  • Service valves

Finding and repairing the leak before recharging the system saves customers money and prevents repeated regas services.

Mobile Car AC Repairs Save Time

One of the biggest reasons Perth drivers search for car AC repair near me is convenience.

Rather than interrupting your day, our mobile technician comes directly to your location with professional air conditioning equipment.

Whether you’re at home, at work or managing a busy schedule, mobile servicing allows many repairs and diagnostic procedures to be completed without the hassle of visiting a workshop.

Many customers are surprised by how much time they save simply by having the service performed where their vehicle is already parked.

Perth’s Climate Makes Air Conditioning Essential

Unlike cooler parts of Australia, Perth experiences long, hot summers where reliable air conditioning quickly becomes more than just a comfort feature.

Temperatures regularly climb well above 35°C, placing extra demand on vehicle air conditioning systems.

Running an air conditioner that is low on refrigerant or suffering from mechanical faults can place unnecessary strain on components, particularly the compressor. Addressing problems early helps maintain cooling performance and may prevent more expensive repairs later.

Regular servicing is especially important for Perth drivers who rely on their vehicles every day for commuting, work or family travel.

What Happens During a Mobile Car Air Conditioning Service?

When you book a mobile car AC service near me, you want more than someone who simply tops up the refrigerant. A professional inspection should identify the cause of the problem before any repairs are recommended.

At CMM Automotive, our mobile air conditioning service typically includes:

  • Visual inspection of the complete air conditioning system
  • Refrigerant pressure testing
  • Cooling performance testing
  • Compressor operation checks
  • Inspection of hoses, seals and fittings
  • Leak detection where required
  • Condenser and cooling fan inspection
  • Vent temperature testing
  • Advice on any repairs required

This thorough approach ensures you’re only paying for the work your vehicle actually needs.

Why Regular Air Conditioning Servicing Saves Money

Many drivers don’t think about their vehicle’s air conditioning until it stops working. However, like any mechanical system, regular servicing can help prevent expensive repairs.

Routine servicing may help:

  • Detect refrigerant leaks before they become major problems
  • Improve cooling efficiency
  • Reduce wear on the compressor
  • Extend the life of the air conditioning system
  • Improve fuel efficiency by allowing the system to operate correctly
  • Keep your vehicle comfortable during Perth’s hottest months

Fixing a small refrigerant leak early is often far less expensive than replacing a damaged compressor.

How Much Does It Cost to Regas Car AC?

How much does it cost to regas car AC? It’s one of the most common questions we hear from vehicle owners across Perth, especially as summer approaches. If your air conditioning isn’t blowing cold air anymore, it’s natural to wonder whether it simply needs a regas or if there’s a bigger issue causing the problem.

The truth is that the cost of a car air conditioning recharge can vary depending on several factors, including the type of refrigerant your vehicle uses, whether there is a leak in the system, and if any repairs are required before the system can be safely recharged.

At CMM Automotive, we provide a professional mobile car air conditioning service, bringing our equipment directly to your home or workplace throughout Perth. Before recommending a regas, we first diagnose the system to ensure you’re not paying for a temporary fix.

What Is a Car AC Regas?

A car air conditioning regas, sometimes called an air conditioning recharge, involves removing any remaining refrigerant, vacuum testing the system, and refilling it with the correct type and amount of refrigerant specified by the manufacturer.

During a professional regas, a technician will typically:

  • Recover the remaining refrigerant.
  • Perform a vacuum test.
  • Check for obvious leaks.
  • Recharge the system with the correct refrigerant.
  • Add the correct compressor oil if required.
  • Test the cooling performance.
  • Measure vent temperatures and operating pressures.

A proper recharge is much more than simply adding gas.

Why Does the Cost Vary?

There is no single price that suits every vehicle because every air conditioning system is different.

Some of the factors affecting the cost include:

Refrigerant Type

Most vehicles use either R134a or the newer R1234yf refrigerant.

R1234yf refrigerant is considerably more expensive than R134a, which increases the overall service cost.

Vehicle Size

Larger vehicles often require a greater quantity of refrigerant.

For example:

  • Small hatchbacks generally use less refrigerant.
  • Large SUVs and four-wheel drives usually require more.
  • Commercial vehicles can require significantly larger refrigerant charges.

The amount specified by the manufacturer directly affects the recharge cost.

System Condition

If your air conditioning system has a refrigerant leak, simply recharging it will not permanently solve the problem.

Additional diagnostic work may be required to locate leaks before the system can be recharged.

Does Every Car That Blows Warm Air Need a Regas?

No.

This is probably the biggest misconception about vehicle air conditioning.

Many drivers assume warm air automatically means the refrigerant is low, but that isn’t always the case.

Other common faults include:

  • Faulty compressor.
  • Electrical problems.
  • Pressure switch faults.
  • Condenser damage.
  • Cooling fan failures.
  • Expansion valve faults.
  • Blocked receiver drier.

This is why proper diagnosis is always recommended before carrying out a car AC regas Perth service.

Air Conditioning Systems Don’t Normally “Use Up” Refrigerant

Unlike fuel, refrigerant is not consumed during normal operation.

A properly sealed air conditioning system should retain its refrigerant for many years.

If your system has become significantly low, there is usually a leak somewhere in the system.

Common leak locations include:

  • Compressor shaft seals.
  • Condenser.
  • Rubber hoses.
  • O-rings.
  • Service valves.
  • Evaporator.

Repairing the leak first prevents you from paying for repeated recharges.

Why Leak Detection Is Important

One of the biggest mistakes people make is choosing the cheapest regas available without checking why the refrigerant disappeared.

A professional automotive air conditioning repair should include leak detection where required.

Technicians may use:

  • Electronic leak detectors.
  • UV dye.
  • Nitrogen pressure testing.
  • Vacuum testing.
  • Visual inspection.

Finding the source of the leak saves money over the long term.

Can I Keep Driving If My AC Isn’t Cold?

Yes, in most cases your vehicle will still drive normally if the air conditioning isn’t working.

However, continuing to operate a system with very low refrigerant can sometimes reduce compressor lubrication, increasing the risk of compressor damage.

Mobile technician performing a car AC regas and recharge service on a vehicle in Perth
How Much Does It Cost to Regas Car AC?

Repairing the problem early may prevent a much more expensive repair later.

Is a Cheap Regas Worth It?

While everyone likes to save money, extremely cheap air conditioning regas offers can sometimes skip important diagnostic checks.

A proper service should include:

  • Refrigerant recovery.
  • Vacuum testing.
  • Leak assessment.
  • Correct refrigerant quantity.
  • Pressure testing.
  • Vent temperature testing.
  • Performance check.

Paying slightly more for a complete service often provides much better value.

Benefits of a Mobile Car Air Conditioning Service

One of the biggest advantages of using a mobile car air conditioning service is convenience.

Instead of taking time off work or waiting at a workshop, our technician comes directly to you.

This allows us to:

  • Diagnose faults on-site.
  • Perform regas services.
  • Carry out leak testing.
  • Repair many common faults.
  • Test cooling performance before leaving.

Our fully equipped service vehicle brings professional equipment directly to your location.

How Often Should a Car AC Be Serviced?

Most manufacturers recommend having the air conditioning system inspected every couple of years, even if it appears to be working normally.

Routine servicing can help:

  • Maintain maximum cooling performance.
  • Detect refrigerant leaks early.
  • Protect the compressor.
  • Improve fuel efficiency.
  • Reduce the likelihood of expensive repairs.

Preventative maintenance is usually far less costly than replacing major components.

When Should You Book an Inspection?

If you notice any of the following symptoms, it’s time to have your air conditioning checked:

  • Air is no longer cold.
  • Cooling performance is getting weaker.
  • Air is only cold while driving.
  • Strange noises when the AC is turned on.
  • Unpleasant smells from the vents.
  • Compressor cycles on and off frequently.

Early diagnosis often prevents minor faults from becoming major repairs.

Why Is My Car AC Blowing Warm Air?

If you’re asking why is my car AC blowing warm air, you’re certainly not alone. It is one of the most common questions drivers ask, especially during the hotter months in Perth. A car air conditioning system that suddenly stops producing cold air can make every drive uncomfortable, and in many cases, the problem will only become worse if left unattended.

The good news is that warm air doesn’t always mean you need an expensive repair. Sometimes the issue is as simple as low refrigerant, while other vehicles may have a faulty compressor, leaking hose or electrical fault. Understanding the common causes can help you decide whether your vehicle simply needs servicing or requires a more detailed repair.

At CMM Automotive, we provide a professional mobile car air conditioning service throughout Perth, diagnosing and repairing air conditioning faults at your home or workplace.

Low Refrigerant Is the Most Common Cause

By far, the most common reason a vehicle starts blowing warm air is that the refrigerant level has become too low.

Your car’s air conditioning system is sealed, so refrigerant should not simply disappear over time. If it has become low, it almost always indicates a leak somewhere within the system.

Common leak locations include:

  • Rubber hoses
  • O-rings
  • Condenser
  • Compressor shaft seals
  • Service ports
  • Evaporator

As refrigerant escapes, the cooling performance gradually decreases until eventually only warm air comes through the vents.

Many drivers notice the air isn’t quite as cold as it used to be months before the system completely stops cooling.

A Faulty Compressor Can Stop Cooling Completely

The compressor is the heart of your vehicle’s air conditioning system.

Its job is to compress the refrigerant and circulate it through the entire system. If the compressor isn’t operating correctly, cold air cannot be produced.

Signs of compressor problems include:

  • Warm air from the vents
  • Clicking noises when the AC is turned on
  • Compressor clutch not engaging
  • Loud rattling noises
  • Intermittent cooling

Sometimes the compressor itself has failed, while in other cases the clutch, electrical supply or pressure sensors are preventing it from operating.

A professional car air conditioning repair should always include testing the compressor before replacing any components.

The Condenser May Be Blocked or Damaged

Your condenser sits at the front of the vehicle behind the grille.

Its job is to remove heat from the refrigerant.

Because of its location, it is exposed to:

  • Stone damage
  • Dirt
  • Leaves
  • Mud
  • Insects

If airflow through the condenser becomes restricted, the refrigerant cannot cool efficiently, resulting in warmer air from the vents.

A damaged condenser can also leak refrigerant.

Electrical Problems Can Prevent the AC from Working

Modern vehicles rely on numerous electrical components to operate the air conditioning system.

These include:

  • Pressure switches
  • Temperature sensors
  • Relays
  • Fuses
  • Cooling fan circuits
  • Climate control modules

Even if all the mechanical components are in good condition, a simple electrical fault can prevent the compressor from engaging.

Proper diagnostic testing is far more accurate than simply adding refrigerant and hoping for the best.

Cooling Fans Play an Important Role

Many people don’t realise the engine cooling fans also assist the air conditioning system.

If these fans stop operating correctly, especially while the vehicle is stationary, the condenser cannot remove enough heat.

Typical symptoms include:

  • Cold while driving
  • Warm while idling
  • Cooling returns once moving again

This is a common issue that can often be diagnosed quickly during an inspection.

Cabin Filters Can Reduce Cooling Performance

Although a blocked cabin filter won’t usually make the air completely warm, it can significantly reduce airflow.

Drivers often think the air conditioning has stopped working when, in reality, cold air simply cannot flow properly through the vents.

Replacing the cabin filter is a routine maintenance item that many vehicles miss.

Why Simply Re-Gassing the System Isn’t Always the Answer

One of the biggest misconceptions is that every air conditioning problem only needs a regas.

If refrigerant has leaked out, adding more gas without finding the leak is only a temporary solution.

The refrigerant will simply escape again.

Professional automotive air conditioning repair involves:

  • Leak detection
  • Pressure testing
  • Vacuum testing
  • Component inspection
  • Performance testing
  • Correct refrigerant recharge

Finding the root cause saves money over the long term.

How a Professional Mobile Diagnosis Works

Preventing Air Conditioning Problems

Regular servicing helps keep your system operating efficiently.

Simple tips include:

  • Run the air conditioning every week, even during winter.
  • Replace the cabin filter when recommended.
  • Have cooling performance checked before summer.
  • Repair refrigerant leaks promptly.
  • Keep the condenser clean.
  • Address unusual noises early.

Preventative maintenance is usually far less expensive than replacing major components.

When Should You Book a Repair?

You should arrange an inspection if your air conditioning:

  • Blows warm air
  • Takes a long time to cool
  • Makes unusual noises
  • Produces unpleasant smells
  • Cycles on and off frequently
  • Stops cooling while stationary
  • Has noticeably weaker airflow

The earlier the problem is diagnosed, the less chance there is of damaging expensive components such as the compressor.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is my car AC blowing warm air all of a sudden?

The most common causes are low refrigerant from a leak, a faulty compressor, electrical faults, or cooling fan problems.

Can low refrigerant damage my compressor?

Yes. Low refrigerant reduces lubrication inside the system, increasing the risk of expensive compressor damage.

Does my car need an AC regas every few years?

Not necessarily. Air conditioning systems are sealed, so if refrigerant is low there is usually a leak that should be repaired before recharging.

Can a mobile technician repair my car air conditioning?

Yes. Many faults, leak tests, diagnostics, servicing and repairs can be carried out by a qualified mobile technician at your home or workplace.

Should You Buy a 2009 Hyundai Elantra? Our Pre-Purchase Vehicle Inspection in Ocean Reef

If you’re looking for a pre-purchase vehicle inspection Perth, it’s important to know exactly what condition a used vehicle is in before you buy. At CMM Automotive, we recently completed a pre-purchase vehicle inspection Perth on this 2009 Hyundai Elantra in Ocean Reef. Our inspection uncovered several mechanical, safety and maintenance issues that could have cost the buyer significantly after purchase, demonstrating why an independent inspection is a worthwhile investment.

Why Book a Pre-Purchase Vehicle Inspection?

A pre-purchase vehicle inspection Perth provides an independent assessment of a vehicle before you commit to buying it. Many used cars appear to be in good condition during a quick inspection or short test drive, but hidden faults can become expensive repairs once the vehicle changes ownership.

This Hyundai Elantra is a good example. While it presented as a tidy and affordable sedan, our inspection identified several issues that should be considered before purchase.

Should You Buy a 2009 Hyundai Elantra?
Should You Buy a 2009 Hyundai Elantra? Our Pre-Purchase Vehicle Inspection in Ocean Reef

Vehicle Interior

The interior showed normal wear for a vehicle of this age, along with a few items requiring attention.

During our inspection we found:

  • Minor scuff marks on the door trims.
  • Marks on the roof lining.
  • Front wiper blade requires replacement.
  • Cigarette lighter not operating.

Although these faults are relatively minor, they contribute to the vehicle’s overall condition and may indicate that routine maintenance has not always been a priority.

Engine Bay and Mechanical Findings

One of the most important parts of any pre-purchase vehicle inspection Perth is a detailed inspection of the engine bay, where developing mechanical faults can often be identified before they become major repairs.

During this inspection we found:

  • Battery tested poor.
  • Water pump showing signs of coolant leakage.

A poor battery may simply require replacement, but a leaking water pump is a more significant concern. If left unrepaired, coolant loss can lead to engine overheating and potentially expensive engine damage. Buyers should budget for repairs and have the cooling system inspected further if purchasing the vehicle.

Steering, Brakes and Suspension

Our inspection also identified several safety-related items affecting the steering and braking systems.

These included:

  • Left-hand front control arm damaged.
  • Rear brakes require replacement.

A damaged control arm can affect steering stability, suspension geometry and tyre wear. Combined with worn rear brakes, these repairs should be considered essential before the vehicle is driven regularly.

A professional vehicle inspection before buying helps identify these types of faults before they become unexpected expenses after purchase.

Body and Exterior

The bodywork presented with several cosmetic and functional issues.

Our inspection found:

  • Several cracks in the windscreen.
  • Front door locks not operating correctly.
  • Minor damage to the roof.
  • Minor scuff marks on the left front guard.

While some of these items are cosmetic, cracked windscreens and faulty door locks may require prompt attention to ensure the vehicle remains safe and roadworthy.

Road Test Findings

Every independent vehicle inspection Perth performed by CMM Automotive includes a road test to identify faults that may not be visible during a stationary inspection.

During our road test we found:

  • Tyres produced excessive road noise.
  • Vehicle displayed a noticeable wobble while driving.

These symptoms may indicate tyre wear, wheel balance issues, wheel alignment problems or suspension wear. Further investigation would be recommended before purchasing the vehicle.

Final Thoughts

This 2009 Hyundai Elantra offered an affordable entry into the used car market, but our inspection identified several concerns including a poor battery, a leaking water pump, damaged suspension components, worn rear brakes, windscreen damage and tyre-related road test issues.

Booking a pre-purchase vehicle inspection Perth before buying any used vehicle gives you an independent assessment of its condition and can help you avoid costly surprises after purchase. At CMM Automotive, our inspections provide buyers with the information they need to negotiate confidently and make informed purchasing decisions.

Pre-Purchase Vehicle Inspection Perth | Nissan X-Trail

If you’re looking for a pre-purchase vehicle inspection Perth, it’s important to know exactly what condition a used vehicle is in before you buy. At CMM Automotive, we recently completed a pre-purchase vehicle inspection Perth on this 2006 Nissan X-Trail in East Perth. Our inspection uncovered several mechanical and maintenance issues that could have cost the buyer significantly after purchase, highlighting why an independent inspection is a smart investment before purchasing any used vehicle.

At CMM Automotive, we recently completed a secondhand car inspection

on a 2006 Nissan X-Trail in East Perth. While the vehicle presented reasonably well overall, our inspection uncovered several mechanical and maintenance issues that every potential buyer should know about before making a decision.

A professional used car inspection Perth can reveal developing faults that aren’t always obvious during a short test drive, giving buyers confidence and helping them avoid costly repairs after purchase.

Engine Bay and Mechanical Findings

One of the most valuable parts of any vehicle inspection before buying is the engine bay inspection, where hidden maintenance issues often become apparent.

During our inspection we found:

  • Battery tested poor.
  • Several engine oil leaks.
  • Water stains visible at the rear of the engine.
  • Minor mechanical noise from the front of the engine.
  • Lower radiator hose showing corrosion.

Oil leaks can vary from simple gasket repairs to more significant mechanical work. Water stains around the engine should also be investigated, as they may indicate previous coolant leaks or cooling system repairs.

These are exactly the types of faults a mobile mechanic Perth can identify before you purchase the vehicle.

Brakes, Steering and Suspension

Every pre-purchase car inspection Perth should include a detailed assessment of the braking and suspension systems because these components directly affect safety.

During this inspection we identified:

  • Front brakes require replacement.
  • Rear brakes require replacement.

Replacing both front and rear brakes represents an additional expense that buyers should factor into their purchase budget.

Exterior Condition

The bodywork showed typical signs of age, along with a number of cosmetic issues.

Our inspection noted:

  • Scratch on the right front guard.
  • Right rear door rubber seal partially detached.
  • Several body grommets missing.
  • Scratches on the left side of the front bumper.
  • Scratches on the right side of the rear bumper.

Although these faults are cosmetic, they provide useful information when negotiating the purchase price.

Road Test Results

A road test forms an important part of every independent vehicle inspection Perth, as some faults only become noticeable while driving.

During our road test we found:

  • Rear brakes producing noticeable shudder under braking.
  • Noise likely coming from the tyres or wheel bearings.

Brake shudder often indicates worn brake components or uneven brake rotor wear, while tyre or wheel bearing noise should be investigated further before purchase.

Why Independent Vehicle Inspections Save Buyers Money

Many used vehicles appear to be excellent value until a qualified mechanic performs a thorough inspection.

A professional pre-purchase vehicle inspection Perth gives buyers a clear understanding of the vehicle’s mechanical condition before money changes hands. It also provides valuable information that can be used to negotiate the purchase price or avoid a vehicle that requires significant repairs.

For a relatively small investment, an inspection can prevent thousands of dollars in unexpected repair costs.

Final Thoughts

This vehiclel presented as a practical family SUV, but our inspection identified oil leaks, a poor battery, cooling system concerns, worn brakes and possible wheel bearing or tyre noise that should all be investigated before purchase.

If you’re considering buying a used SUV, hatchback, sedan or four-wheel drive, booking a pre-purchase vehicle inspection Perth with CMM Automotive provides an independent mechanical assessment before you buy. Our comprehensive inspections help buyers make informed decisions, negotiate confidently and avoid expensive surprises after taking ownership.

Should You Buy a 2003 Nissan Pulsar? What Our Pre-Purchase Vehicle Inspection in Perth Revealed

If you’re considering buying a used Nissan Pulsar, you’re not alone. The 2003 Nissan Pulsar remains a popular choice thanks to its affordability, low running costs and simple mechanical design. However, as these vehicles are now more than 20 years old, it’s important to know exactly what you’re buying before handing over your money.

At CMM Automotive, we recently carried out a pre-purchase vehicle inspection Perth on a 2003 Nissan Pulsar in the suburb of Pearsall. Although the vehicle initially appeared to be a practical and inexpensive daily driver, our inspection uncovered a number of mechanical, safety and maintenance issues that every buyer should consider.

A professional used car inspection Perth can often reveal faults that aren’t obvious during a short test drive, potentially saving buyers hundreds or even thousands of dollars in unexpected repairs.

Why Book a Pre-Purchase Vehicle Inspection Before Buying?

A pre-purchase vehicle inspection Perth provides an independent assessment of the vehicle’s overall condition before you commit to buying it. Our inspections cover the engine, brakes, suspension, steering, bodywork, interior and a complete road test, giving buyers confidence and peace of mind.

In this Nissan Pulsar, several hidden faults were identified that would have been easy to overlook without a thorough inspection.

Interior Condition

The interior showed signs of age and wear that are common in older vehicles.

Our inspection found:

  • Carpet worn and damaged around the driver’s footrest.
  • Broken glovebox.
  • Scratched door trims.
  • Washer jets blocked.
  • Remote central locking not operating.
  • Cigarette lighter not working.

While these issues are mostly cosmetic or convenience-related, they still contribute to the overall condition and value of the vehicle.

Engine Bay and Mechanical Findings

Every vehicle inspection before buying should include a detailed engine bay assessment, as this is where expensive mechanical problems are often discovered.

During this inspection we identified:

  • Rear engine mount cracked.
  • Engine showing signs of excessive crankcase breathing.
  • Battery tested low.
  • Fan belts showing visible cracking.
  • Brake fluid stains beneath the brake booster.

  • Rocker cover gasket leaking engine oil.
  • Battery tray not securely mounted.

Although some of these items are relatively inexpensive repairs, others may indicate neglected servicing or developing mechanical problems that require further investigation.

Steering, Suspension and Brakes

One of the biggest advantages of arranging an independent vehicle inspection Perth is identifying worn suspension and braking components before purchasing the vehicle.

During our inspection we found:

  • Front control arm bushes split.
  • Front shock absorbers leaking oil.
  • Front brake disc rotors heavily worn with pronounced lips.
  • Tie rod end dust boots split.
  • Right rear tyre has low tread.
  • Rear strut dust boots damaged.

These components all contribute to vehicle handling, braking performance and safety. Replacing several suspension and steering parts at once can significantly increase the overall cost of ownership.

Exterior Condition

The exterior generally reflected the vehicle’s age but also revealed several maintenance items.

We noted:

  • Right front park light not working.
  • Headlight lenses faded.
  • Front lenses beginning to deteriorate.
  • Spare tyre flat.

Although these faults are relatively minor individually, they should be included when negotiating the purchase price.

Road Test Results

A mobile mechanic Perth inspection always includes a road test because many mechanical faults only become noticeable while driving.

During the road test we found:

  • Minor brake squeal from the front brakes.
  • Minor clunk from the front suspension.
  • Vehicle overdue for routine servicing.

These findings support the mechanical observations made during the workshop inspection and reinforce the need for maintenance before the vehicle is used regularly.

Is a Used Nissan Pulsar Still Worth Buying?

The Nissan Pulsar has a reputation for reliability when maintained correctly, but age-related wear becomes increasingly common as these vehicles get older.

This inspection highlights why a pre-purchase car inspection Perth is worthwhile. Components such as suspension bushes, engine mounts, shock absorbers and oil leaks may not be immediately obvious during a quick inspection by a buyer but can result in substantial repair costs after purchase.

Having an experienced mechanic inspect the vehicle independently allows buyers to make an informed decision and negotiate from a position of knowledge.

Final Thoughts

This 2003 Nissan Pulsar presented as an affordable used vehicle, but our inspection uncovered several issues including suspension wear, oil leaks, worn brake components, engine mount deterioration, electrical faults and overdue maintenance.

If you’re purchasing a used hatchback, sedan, SUV or four-wheel drive, booking a pre-purchase vehicle inspection Perth with CMM Automotive provides an independent assessment before you buy. A professional inspection can identify hidden faults, improve your negotiating position and help you avoid expensive surprises after taking ownership.

Pre-Purchase Vehicle Inspection Perth | 2004 Hyundai Getz

Buying a used Hyundai Getz can be an excellent choice if you’re looking for an affordable and economical vehicle. Many Getz models have proven to be reliable over the years, but age and maintenance history can significantly affect their condition. That’s why arranging a pre-purchase vehicle inspection Perth is one of the smartest decisions you can make before buying any used car.

At CMM Automotive, we recently completed a pre-purchase vehicle inspection Perth service on a 2004 Hyundai Getz in Warwick. Although the vehicle appeared to be in reasonable condition at first glance, our inspection identified several mechanical, maintenance and cosmetic issues that every buyer should be aware of before making a purchase.

Why a Pre-Purchase Vehicle Inspection Perth Can Save You Money

A professional pre-purchase vehicle inspection Perth goes far beyond checking whether a vehicle starts and drives. Our inspections cover the engine, brakes, suspension, steering, body, interior and a complete road test to help buyers understand the true condition of a vehicle before handing over their money.

During this Hyundai Getz inspection, we discovered several faults that could influence repair costs and the final purchase price.

Interior Condition

The interior showed normal signs of age but also highlighted areas requiring attention.

We found:

  • Front door trims in poor condition.
  • The 12-volt socket cover was missing from the centre console.
  • Air conditioning button missing.
  • No keyless entry system fitted.

While these faults may not prevent someone from buying the vehicle, they should be considered when assessing its overall value.

Engine Bay Inspection

Every pre-purchase vehicle inspection Perth includes a detailed inspection of the engine bay, where hidden maintenance issues are often discovered.

During this inspection we found:

  • Positive battery terminal showing corrosion.
  • Battery tested poor and is nearing replacement.
  • Minor fan belt noise.
  • Bearing noise coming from the front of the engine.

Bearing noise should never be ignored, as it may indicate wear in an engine-driven accessory such as an idler pulley, tensioner or alternator. Early diagnosis can often prevent more expensive repairs later.

Brakes, Steering and Suspension

Brake performance is one of the most important safety checks carried out during every pre-purchase vehicle inspection Perth.

Our inspection identified:

  • Left front wheel rim and hubcap damaged.
  • Front brakes due for replacement.
  • Rear brakes approximately 30% remaining.

Although the rear brakes still have service life remaining, the front brakes will require attention in the near future.

Body and Exterior Condition

The exterior condition was generally consistent with the vehicle’s age.

We noted:

  • Out-of-date registration sticker still attached to the windscreen.
  • Minor scratches on the rear bumper.
  • Minor paint damage around the driver’s door.

These cosmetic faults are relatively minor but should still be considered when negotiating the purchase price.

Road Test Results

A road test is an important part of every pre-purchase vehicle inspection Perth because some faults only become apparent while driving.

During our road test we found:

  • Noticeable noise coming from the engine area.
  • Very minor brake shudder during braking.

Although the brake shudder was only slight, it suggests the braking system should be inspected further when replacing the front brake components.

Why Independent Vehicle Inspections Are Worth It

Many used vehicles appear to be good value until a qualified mechanic performs a thorough inspection.

A professional pre-purchase vehicle inspection Perth provides buyers with an independent assessment of the vehicle’s condition before purchase. It can identify developing mechanical faults, worn safety components and maintenance issues that may otherwise go unnoticed during a quick inspection by the buyer.

For relatively little cost, an inspection can save hundreds or even thousands of dollars in unexpected repair bills after purchase.

Final Thoughts

This 2004 Hyundai Getz presented as a typical older small hatchback, but our inspection uncovered battery issues, engine bearing noise, worn front brakes, cosmetic damage and minor brake shudder that the buyer should carefully consider before purchasing.

If you’re buying a used vehicle anywhere in Perth, booking a pre-purchase vehicle inspection Perth with CMM Automotive provides independent advice and a detailed mechanical assessment before you commit. Whether you’re purchasing from a dealership or a private seller, a professional inspection helps you buy with confidence and avoid expensive surprises.

Thinking of Buying a 2007 Mitsubishi Triton? Here’s What We Found During a Mobile Pre-Purchase Vehicle Inspection in Midland

Buying a used Mitsubishi Triton can be a great investment if you choose the right vehicle. These utes have earned a reputation for being reliable workhorses, but like any vehicle approaching twenty years of age, expensive mechanical problems can develop if maintenance has been neglected.

At CMM Automotive, we specialise in mobile pre-purchase vehicle inspection Perth services and recently completed an inspection on this 2007 Mitsubishi Triton in Midland. As a mobile pre-purchase vehicle inspection Perth business, we inspect vehicles across the metropolitan area, helping buyers avoid expensive mechanical surprises before purchasing a used vehicle.

This inspection is a great example of why arranging a pre-purchase car inspection in Perth is one of the smartest decisions you can make before buying any used vehicle.

A Good-Looking Vehicle Doesn’t Always Mean a Good Vehicle

Many buyers naturally focus on a vehicle’s appearance. Fresh paint, clean seats and shiny tyres can make almost any vehicle look well cared for.

However, a professional used car inspection in Perth looks far beyond cosmetics.

During this Triton inspection, we found only minor interior wear including marks on the door trims, worn pedal rubbers and a worn steering wheel. These are normal signs of age and would not normally concern most buyers.

The serious issues were hidden underneath the bonnet and underneath the vehicle.

Engine Problems That Should Never Be Ignored

One of the first concerns discovered during our inspection was that the engine oil was not registering on the dipstick.

This immediately raises questions about the vehicle’s maintenance history and whether the engine has been operated with insufficient lubrication.

During the road test the engine also:

  • Misfired under load
  • Produced excessive smoke
  • Ran poorly throughout the drive

Engine misfires can have many causes, ranging from relatively simple injector or fuel system faults through to more expensive internal engine problems.

Excessive smoke is another warning sign that every buyer should investigate before committing to purchase.

Without a professional inspection, these faults may not become obvious until after you’ve handed over your money.

The Braking System Needed Immediate Attention

Your braking system is one of the most important safety systems on any vehicle.

During this inspection we found:

  • Front brake pads completely worn out
  • Rear brake pads extremely low
  • Brake fluid below the recommended level

Replacing worn brakes is common maintenance, but when multiple brake-related faults are present together it usually indicates the vehicle has been overdue for servicing.

A quality vehicle inspection before buying ensures these issues are identified before they become your financial responsibility.

Suspension Wear Can Become Expensive

Used four-wheel drives often spend years towing trailers, carrying heavy loads or travelling on rough roads.

This Triton showed clear signs of suspension wear including:

  • Worn suspension bushes
  • Cracked front strut mounting rubbers
  • Sagging rear leaf springs

Suspension repairs can quickly become expensive, particularly when several components require replacement at the same time.

These are exactly the types of faults that many buyers overlook during a quick inspection.

Hidden Problems Underneath the Vehicle

One of the biggest advantages of using an independent vehicle inspection in Perth is that the vehicle is checked underneath as well as above.

In this Triton we discovered the left-hand inner CV boot had split and was throwing grease.

A damaged CV boot may appear minor, but if left unrepaired dirt enters the joint and eventually causes complete CV joint failure.

We also identified:

  • A puncture in the right rear tyre
  • General tyre noise during the road test

These issues all add to the overall repair costs after purchase.

Mobile Pre Purchase Vehicle Inspection Ocean Reef
Thinking of Buying a 2007 Mitsubishi Triton? Here’s What We Found During a Mobile Pre-Purchase Vehicle Inspection in Midland

Cosmetic Damage Still Matters

Although mechanical condition is always the priority, cosmetic damage should also be considered when negotiating a purchase price.

This Triton displayed:

  • Minor scratches around the body
  • Damage to the side step
  • Small dents in the roof
  • Dents to the rear ute side panel
  • Scratches on the tailgate
  • Windscreen rubber not sitting correctly

None of these faults alone would necessarily stop someone buying the vehicle, but together they help build a more complete picture of how the vehicle has been treated over its lifetime.

Why a Mobile Pre-Purchase Vehicle Inspection Is Worth It

Many buyers only discover major faults after they’ve already completed the purchase.

A professional mobile mechanic in Perth can inspect the vehicle at the seller’s home, workplace or dealership before you commit.

At CMM Automotive, every inspection includes checks of:

  • Engine condition
  • Cooling system
  • Battery
  • Suspension
  • Steering
  • Brakes
  • Tyres
  • Driveline
  • Body condition
  • Interior
  • Road test

Our goal is to provide buyers with an independent assessment so they know exactly what they’re purchasing.

Final Thoughts

This 2007 Mitsubishi Triton looked like a typical used work ute, but our inspection uncovered significant mechanical faults including engine performance issues, excessive smoke, low engine oil, worn brakes, suspension wear and driveline problems.

Without a professional inspection, these repairs could easily cost thousands of dollars after purchase.

If you’re considering buying a used car, ute or four-wheel drive, arranging a mobile pre-purchase vehicle inspection in Perth gives you the confidence to make an informed decision and can often save far more than the cost of the inspection itself.

Whether you’re buying from a dealership or a private seller, CMM Automotive provides comprehensive pre-purchase vehicle inspections throughout Perth, helping buyers avoid expensive surprises before they hand over their money.

Used Car Vehicle Inspection Aveley – Toyota Hilux 1996

Posted on July 22, 2026 by Grant

Before purchasing an older ute, a Used Car Vehicle Inspection Aveley can reveal mechanical and safety problems that may not appear during a short test drive. CMM Automotive recently inspected a 1996 Toyota Hilux in Aveley and found several issues affecting the vehicle’s steering, brakes, engine, cooling system and body condition.

Interior Inspection

We started inside the cabin. The carpet was dirty, and both air vents had missing adjustment knobs. The door trims showed significant wear, while the trim around the interior rear-view mirror was loose. The exterior mirror glass had faded, and the windscreen washer jets required adjustment. We also found worn clutch and brake pedal rubbers.

Engine Inspection

Our inspection then moved to the engine bay. The battery performed poorly during testing, and the battery clamps did not hold it securely. The air conditioning produced warm air instead of cooling the cabin. We also found corrosion around the radiator coupling and top radiator hose. The power steering system had an oil leak, and the power steering pump produced excessive noise.

The fuel filter was leaking, while corrosion and staining covered parts of the engine block. We also found oil leaking from the engine, requiring further investigation and repair.

Steering, Brakes and Suspension

All four tyres showed significant wear and scalloping. The power steering box had excessive wear, and the front shock absorber rubbers had deteriorated. We also found the front brake flexible hoses had stretched, which requires immediate attention.

During the inspection, the steering system showed excessive wear and free play. These faults can affect vehicle control and require repair before normal driving.

Body and Exterior Inspection

The exterior inspection identified several faults. The reverse lights did not operate, while the front park light lens had faded. Both rear doors showed rust, and the left-hand front door seal had sustained damage. The door locks were stiff, and the central locking did not operate from the driver’s door.

Pre Purchase Car Inspection Wembley – Toyota RAV4 2006

Posted on July 22, 2026 by Grant

Before buying a second-hand vehicle, a Pre Purchase Car Inspection Wembley can reveal mechanical and safety faults that may not be obvious during a short test drive. CMM Automotive recently inspected a 2006 Toyota RAV4 in Wembley and found several issues that could affect the vehicle’s condition and future repair costs.

Interior Inspection

We began by checking the interior. The carpets and interior trims showed some damage, while the roof lining had several stains. We also found scratches in several areas of the window tinting. Several rear seat belts did not operate correctly, and the passenger seat trim had sustained damage.

Engine Inspection

Next, we examined the engine bay and its major components. The automatic transmission fluid appeared very dirty and requires attention. We also heard a minor noise from the front of the engine, along with a much louder noise from the alternator area. In addition, we heard a noise from underneath the exhaust manifold. An oil leak was also present from the lower section of the engine.

Steering, Brakes and Suspension

The braking system requires significant attention. The front brakes need replacement, and the front disc rotors had developed large wear lips. The rear brakes also require replacement. We found cracks and splits in the rear tyres, which make replacement important for safety.

Before buying a second-hand vehicle, a Used Car Inspection Mount Hawthorn can uncover faults that may not appear during a short test drive. CMM Automotive recently inspected a 2008 Hyundai Accent in Mount Hawthorn and found several mechanical, safety and cosmetic issues that could lead to unexpected repair costs.

Interior Inspection

We started by checking the vehicle’s interior. The dashboard had significant sun fading, while the left-hand front window switch did not operate correctly.

Engine Inspection

Next, we examined the engine bay and its components. Our battery test showed low performance, and the radiator had sustained damage. We also found an oil leak from the rear of the automatic transmission. In addition, the right-hand front window switch was not working correctly.

Steering, Brakes and Suspension

The steering inspection identified excessive play in the steering rack ends. This can affect steering control and may contribute to uneven tyre wear. We also found the right-hand rear shock absorber leaking oil and recommend replacing it.

Before buying a second-hand vehicle, a Vehicle Inspection Marangaroo can uncover faults that may not appear during a quick test drive. CMM Automotive recently inspected a Mercedes E24 in Marangaroo and found several mechanical, safety and cosmetic issues that could lead to expensive repairs.

Interior Inspection

We started the inspection inside the vehicle. The left-hand sun visor light did not work, while the radio also failed to operate. We also found the left-hand rear window switch was not working correctly.

Engine Inspection

Next, we checked the engine bay and its components. The battery produced an average test result. We also found an engine oil leak from the rear main seal. In addition, the exhaust system produced a rattling noise that requires further investigation.

Steering, Brakes and Suspension

The tyre inspection revealed cracking across all four tyres. The tread had also become old, while the sidewalls had very little usable tread remaining. All front and rear brakes had reached the end of their service life, and the disc rotors showed significant wear. We also found the right-hand front brake caliper had no brake pad fitted. The brake fluid level was low, creating an important safety concern.

Body and Exterior Inspection

The exterior inspection uncovered several cosmetic faults. We found minor scratches on the front bumper, dents in the right-hand front guard and dents in the right-hand rear door. The right-hand headlights had faded, and overspray was visible on the lenses. We also found minor dents in the left-hand rear door and further scratches on the bumper.

Used Car Inspection Kallaroo – Nissan Maxima 2005

Posted on July 20, 2026 by Grant

Buying a second-hand vehicle is a significant investment, so arranging a Used Car Inspection Kallaroo before purchase can help identify hidden faults. CMM Automotive recently inspected a 2005 Nissan Maxima and uncovered several mechanical, safety and cosmetic issues that could influence a buyer’s decision.

Interior Inspection

We started our inspection inside the cabin. The vehicle did not display a service sticker on the windscreen, and our inspection indicated it was overdue for a service. We also found stains on the carpet and roof lining. The right-hand rear door trim was torn, while the windscreen washer jets failed to operate correctly. In addition, the steering wheel grip had cracked through regular wear.

Engine Inspection

Our inspection then moved to the engine bay. We found the battery unsecured because the battery clamps were missing. The radiator showed signs of corrosion, while both the upper and lower radiator hoses had swollen. We recommend replacing both hoses. We also found severe cracking in the fan belt, which requires immediate replacement. The power steering fluid had a burnt smell, which may indicate excessive wear within the steering system. The radiator contained no coolant, and dirt had heavily contaminated the air filter element.

Steering, Brakes and Suspension

We continued by inspecting the steering, brakes and suspension. The right-hand lower control arm was soaked in oil, and the front suspension bushes showed small cracks. Both front tyres had excessive edge wear, while the rear tyres also displayed edge wear and early signs of scalloping. We also identified a minor power steering oil leak. The rear brakes require replacement before the vehicle returns to regular service.

Body and Exterior Inspection

The body inspection revealed several cosmetic faults. We found small stone chips in the windscreen, faded headlight lenses and numerous scratches on the front bumper. Paint cracking was visible across much of the vehicle, while the left-hand rear door had several dents. The rear bumper also had scratches, and the high-level brake light was not operating.

Road Test

To complete the inspection, we carried out a road test. During braking, we detected a slight front brake shudder. The vehicle also pulled to the left while driving, which suggests the steering or wheel alignment requires further investigation.

Engine Inspection

Our inspection continued in the engine bay. We found an engine oil leak around the timing cover area and coolant stains near the water pump. These signs indicate the cooling system and engine should receive further attention. Our battery test also showed the battery performed poorly and may require replacement soon. In addition, the vehicle was overdue for a routine service.

Steering, Brakes and Suspension

We then examined the steering, brakes and suspension components. We identified excessive wear in the front lower control arm bushes, which can affect steering performance and tyre wear. The front brakes were approximately 80% worn and will soon require replacement. We also detected minor play in the rear differential pinion. Both front tyres displayed uneven edge wear, suggesting a wheel alignment or suspension issue.

Body and Exterior Inspection

The exterior inspection revealed several minor scratches across the bodywork. We also found the roof paint was flaking, while the chrome window mouldings had started to perish. The remote central locking was not operating correctly, and the rear bumper protection bar had sustained damage.

Road Test

During the road test, we detected noticeable brake shudder under braking. We recommend inspecting the brake discs and braking system before the vehicle is purchased.
