Before buying a second-hand vehicle, a Vehicle Inspection Marangaroo can uncover faults that may not appear during a quick test drive. CMM Automotive recently inspected a Mercedes E24 in Marangaroo and found several mechanical, safety and cosmetic issues that could lead to expensive repairs.
Interior Inspection
We started the inspection inside the vehicle. The left-hand sun visor light did not work, while the radio also failed to operate. We also found the left-hand rear window switch was not working correctly.
Engine Inspection
Next, we checked the engine bay and its components. The battery produced an average test result. We also found an engine oil leak from the rear main seal. In addition, the exhaust system produced a rattling noise that requires further investigation.
Steering, Brakes and Suspension
The tyre inspection revealed cracking across all four tyres. The tread had also become old, while the sidewalls had very little usable tread remaining. All front and rear brakes had reached the end of their service life, and the disc rotors showed significant wear. We also found the right-hand front brake caliper had no brake pad fitted. The brake fluid level was low, creating an important safety concern.
Body and Exterior Inspection
The exterior inspection uncovered several cosmetic faults. We found minor scratches on the front bumper, dents in the right-hand front guard and dents in the right-hand rear door. The right-hand headlights had faded, and overspray was visible on the lenses. We also found minor dents in the left-hand rear door and further scratches on the bumper.
Road Test
During the road test, we heard several noises from the rear of the vehicle. The noises may have come from the brakes, exhaust or other drivetrain components. Further investigation would help identify the source before purchase.
