Buying a second-hand vehicle is a significant investment, so arranging a Used Car Inspection Kallaroo before purchase can help identify hidden faults. CMM Automotive recently inspected a 2005 Nissan Maxima and uncovered several mechanical, safety and cosmetic issues that could influence a buyer’s decision.
Interior Inspection
We started our inspection inside the cabin. The vehicle did not display a service sticker on the windscreen, and our inspection indicated it was overdue for a service. We also found stains on the carpet and roof lining. The right-hand rear door trim was torn, while the windscreen washer jets failed to operate correctly. In addition, the steering wheel grip had cracked through regular wear.
Engine Inspection
Our inspection then moved to the engine bay. We found the battery unsecured because the battery clamps were missing. The radiator showed signs of corrosion, while both the upper and lower radiator hoses had swollen. We recommend replacing both hoses. We also found severe cracking in the fan belt, which requires immediate replacement. The power steering fluid had a burnt smell, which may indicate excessive wear within the steering system. The radiator contained no coolant, and dirt had heavily contaminated the air filter element.

Steering, Brakes and Suspension
We continued by inspecting the steering, brakes and suspension. The right-hand lower control arm was soaked in oil, and the front suspension bushes showed small cracks. Both front tyres had excessive edge wear, while the rear tyres also displayed edge wear and early signs of scalloping. We also identified a minor power steering oil leak. The rear brakes require replacement before the vehicle returns to regular service.
Body and Exterior Inspection
The body inspection revealed several cosmetic faults. We found small stone chips in the windscreen, faded headlight lenses and numerous scratches on the front bumper. Paint cracking was visible across much of the vehicle, while the left-hand rear door had several dents. The rear bumper also had scratches, and the high-level brake light was not operating.
Road Test
To complete the inspection, we carried out a road test. During braking, we detected a slight front brake shudder. The vehicle also pulled to the left while driving, which suggests the steering or wheel alignment requires further investigation.
