Buying a used ute without a professional inspection can help you avoid expensive repairs after purchase. Our inspection identified several mechanical, structural and cosmetic faults that could influence a buyer’s decision.
Interior Inspection
We began the Mobile Pre Purchase Vehicle Inspection Kenwick by inspecting the interior. Our inspection revealed several holes in the carpets and interior trims. During testing, the heater failed to produce warm air. We also found the right-hand centre air vent was broken, and the driver’s sun visor had sustained damage. Several stains and holes were present in the centre console, while the rear parcel tray trim was loose and not secured correctly.
Engine Inspection
Next, we inspected the engine bay and its components. We found excessive corrosion throughout the engine bay. Our battery test showed the battery had low capacity and may require replacement. We also identified corrosion on the exhaust system and the brake booster. These faults indicate the vehicle has experienced significant exposure to moisture or harsh operating conditions.
Steering, Brakes and Suspension
We continued by inspecting the steering, brakes and suspension. The rear brake drums had seized onto the hubs, preventing a complete inspection of the rear braking system. We also found a large build-up of brake dust around the rear brakes. Corrosion had developed on the front brake calipers. The front brake pads still had approximately 60 percent material remaining.
Body and Exterior Inspection
We completed the Mobile Pre Purchase Vehicle Inspection Kenwick by inspecting the body and exterior. We found rust beginning around the windscreen. The park light headlight lens had become cloudy with age. Our inspection also revealed previous repairs to the right-hand front guard, along with newer paint on the inner guard. Rust was present on the rear bumper and inside the rear tray.
Road Test
During the road test, the clutch produced a noticeable squeak during operation. We also heard minor gearbox noise while driving. We recommend investigating both issues before purchasing the vehicle.
